The first day in Bangkok, you should visit some places:

Grand Palace

The Grand Palace (or Royal Palace) is the most visited tourist site in Bangkok and one of the must see attractions during a trip to Thailand.

Tips for visiting:

  • When visiting the Grand Palace, dress modestly and respectfully.

  • Both men and women are required to cover their shoulders and wear pants or skirts that cover the knees.

  • If you're not dressed appropriately, there are rental clothing options available near the entrance.

Wat Pho

Wat Pho

Wat Pho, Bangkok's second most popular tourist attraction, is located near the Grand Palace and is easily accessible on foot.

This historic and culturally significant site showcases exquisite architecture, rich history, and spiritual significance.

*Tips for visiting:

Dress modestly and remove your shoes before entering temple buildings. As with other temples, it's recommended to visit Wat Pho early in the day to avoid crowds and the midday heat.

Wat Arun

Wat Arun is one of Thailand's most recognizable temples, or watts. Climb the steep stairs of Wat Arun to get a fantastic view of the city and the Chao Phraya River. As we enter, we will notice an extremely impressive spiral-shaped stone roof gate located directly in front of us. There are statues nearby depicting events from the Buddha's life.

*Tips for visiting:

  • This destination has an entrance fee of 100 baht.

  • This is a spiritual place, worshiping Buddha, so please pay attention to dress appropriately.

Ayutthaya

Some must-try attractions in Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya, not far from Bangkok, is an excellent location for admiring Thailand's magnificent temples. Ayutthaya was well-known for its stunning architecture, intricate temples, and commerce.

There are 6 main temples:

  • Visit Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the largest and most significant temple in Ayutthaya, known for its three iconic chedis (stupas) and impressive Buddha images.

  • Discover Wat Mahathat, famous for the Buddha head encased in tree roots - a popular photo spot for visitors.

  • Explore Wat Ratchaburana, known for its impressive prang (Khmer-style tower) and ancient murals.

  • Visit Wat Phra Ram, a serene temple with a beautiful lake nearby, providing picturesque views.

  • Wat Maheyong is located outside the historical park, towards the floating market. Unfortunately, there isn’t much left of it, which perhaps explains why it is not flocked by tourists. If you have taken the Pass and you have a little time to spare, you can always go and have a look.

  • Wat Chai Watthanaram’s construction began in the 17th century and lasted for almost 20 years. This Khmer-style temple located on the river banks features a large central prang, about 35 meters tall, surrounded by several smaller chedis.

Sukhothai

Sukhothai

Sukhothai is the next stop on your 2 weeks Thailand itinerary.

The flight from Bangkok to this place only takes about 1 hour, so this is a means of choice for many tourists, especially with large groups, with elderly people and children.
